The Diocesan Catechetical Department

Coordinating and promoting catechetical formation and evangelization

Introduction

The Diocesan Catechetical Department is responsible for coordinating and promoting catechetical formation and evangelization activities within the Diocese. It embraces the entire life of Catholics—children, youth, and adults—by providing basic teachings of the Catholic faith. It works closely with priests, parishes, catechists, schools, Small Christian Communities, and various Church groups to strengthen the faith of the people of God.

Key Activities

  • Organizing catechist formation and training programs at Mlowo Formation Centre and Catholic University of Mbeya.
  • Coordinating sacramental preparation programs in parishes organized by priests.
  • Supporting youth and children catechesis.
  • Encouraging evangelization and missionary activities in the Diocese.
  • Organizing catechists’ congresses and diocesan catechetical gatherings.
  • Conducting formation seminars and workshops in different deaneries.
  • Providing spiritual and pastoral seminars for catechists during their gatherings.
  • Coordinating faith teaching programs for children, youth, and adults in schools and colleges.
  • Promoting evangelization through parish and Small Christian Community catechesis.

Through these activities, the Department seeks to deepen the Catholic faith, improve catechetical teaching, and strengthen the mission of evangelization throughout the Diocese.

Leadership

The Department operates under the guidance of the bishop and collaborates with priests, religious men and women, and lay faithful to ensure effective catechetical ministry throughout the Diocese.

The Catechetical Department is headed by the Director of Catechesis, who oversees all catechetical activities and programs in the Diocese.
